Blast resistant windows for offices, hotels and government buildings
The difficult periods of terrorism in Northern Ireland encouraged the company in the early 1990s to develop an aluminium window system that had blast-resistant qualities. This was not “bunker” technology for use in military installations but was for commercial office buildings, where the owners and architects wished the building to retain its aesthetic qualities but at the same time provide a degree of protection to the occupants and contents in the event of a terrorist explosion nearby.
The product was used extensively throughout the nineties in Belfast City Centre and since 11 September 2001 the company has provided products to numerous British embassies around the world including Beirut, Kabul, and Nepal. The company has successfully undertaken blast-resistant testing to both the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office and US military standards.
The windows remain aesthetically pleasing, with opening vents or fixed lights and can be double or single glazed (thermally broken aluminium frames).
The design and fabrication process occurs at the company's head office in Moira which is situated 18 miles south of Belfast. Installation in Iraq can be through a local building contractor (using detailed design drawings) or via one of our partner companies, which will contract out the work directly.
The company has a fully equipped and modern factory facility including CNC machinery and computerised cutting and drilling tools. The experienced technical and administrative staff occupy a brand new self developed office block which itself is a feature of the best the company can offer.
The company places great importance on its quality procedures and the training and motivation of its entire workforce.
It is an Approved Centre of Excellence in partnership with the “Construction Industry Training Board” for the training of its employees to its own equivalent NVQ standards and has won a number of National Training Awards. It also holds ISO 9001 : 2000 as well as ISO 14001 and is a member of the Centre of Window & Cladding Technology.
McMullen Architectural Systems Ltd has worked on prestigious contracts throughout the British Isles and has been heavily involved in the regeneration projects at Belfast Waterfront. This is where former"‘old industry" sites for ship building and warehousing have been rejuvenated by substantial investments in modern and architecturally adventurous office accommodation.
The company has also been involved in the creation of modern office facilities for the booming IT industry in Dublin and has completed prestigious contracts in the London area for financial institutions such as Prudential Assurance and Royal Bank of Scotland. It has considerable experience with a number of major hospital projects throughout Ireland.
The company believes this combination of expertise and knowledge of executing building contracts in environments emerging from violent and destructive periods of their history will enable it to make a worthwhile contribution to the important reconstruction of Iraq.
